About The Club - Ashburton United SC

From humble beginnings Ashburton United has grown into one of the largest clubs in South East Melbourne, with numerous junior teams, a women’s section and four men’s senior squads.

In 2009 the Ashburton United Soccer Club celebrated its 30th year anniversary. Originally established as a junior club, a senior men’s team was formed shortly after and competed in the amateur leagues. Over the years the club made steady progress, moving through the leagues until being admitted to the Victorian Soccer Federation (now Football Federation Victoria) in 1996.

Much of the success is due to the calibre of the coaches that have led the club, including Melbourne football identity Shuggy Mourne, Bruce Gardiner Bill Rae and Reno Lia.

In 2009/2010 Con Karagiannidis led Ashburton’s first-team. Karagiannidis had a decorated playing career that included stints at Caulfield City, Altona East, Knox City and Croydon City Arrows, as well as playing overseas. In 2010, Ashburton United narrowly missed out on a promotion place after finishing third in the league standings.

Despite the changes over the years, the club has never lost its community focus and remains strongly committed to providing local and surrounding residents and its youth players with an avenue to play senior football within the FFV structure.
